Joe Gransden Jazz Jam Essay In the recent course of music, it is evident that changes and development are present. The variety of genres had expanded which led to the arrival of brand new breed of artist that is able to represent various entities and cultures. Moreover one of the genres which are developing is Jazz. For many years, different jazz musicians are present. In the current state of music, it is clear that music is flowing. Due to such realization it is needed as a researcher to see a jazz performer to fully see the development of music as well as the instrumentation of the band. More so, the researcher shall provide details to which different kinds of observation during the performance of Joe Gransden Quartet Jazz Jam. The Joe Gransden Quartet Jazz Jam is a group which is composed of different individuals who are actively performing different types of instrumentations. The most important instrument is the trumpet which is usually utilized in every song of the band. The band is greatly utilizing instruments rather than a vocal instrument. There is a satisfying sound of the base and drums and the cello which highlighted by the shallow sound by different instruments with a lighter sound. More so, the whole set which was played by the band were all complete with different instruments which add drama and emotions with the songs. Definitely the whole band is very great for they are able to present their craft and attain a response from the audience. For the band is jazz, the audience is calm and very appreciative of the music. Due to the excellence o the band, it is inevitable that the audience will be entertained and amused on how individuals could utilize music as a form of emotional and artistic perspective. On the other hand, attending such concert is similar to drinking a cold glass of water. Such kind of band is refreshing to the ears and to the soul. The music of the band and their musicality is unquestionable. Moreover, the excellence of each member in their instruments does not need any improvement. The association of each instrument is in line with each other. Upon this, the researcher sees that the Joe Gransden Quartet Jazz Jam is a unique band which does not present that jazz is a genre which is unlike any other. The presentation is highly classical in the perspective of the researcher. The instruments and the notes are learning to the classical music which is usually done in operas. More so, the instrument was playing a huge role in its own unique way. All the instruments were complementing each other. Therefore, the instruments are all highlighted in their own way. Looking at the perspective of the solo acts, it is slightly evident that each of the musicians has their own flare in providing a different style in playing the instrument. In addition to this, the lead of the band ââ¬âJoe Gransden is an important player in the band. For he leads the whole group towards his visions, he is allowed the most pristine individual in the group. Although most of the musicians in the group is great in their on instruments, it is through the vision and knowledge of Joe Gransden that the group have gone to the levels and acknowledgement of the press and the audience. August 5, 1769: Napoleon Bonaparte is born. His original name was Napoleone Buonaparte in Corsican, but in French it became Napoleon Bonaparte. January 1, 1779: At the age of nine Napoleonââ¬â¢s father sends him to the college d'Autun with his brother Joseph. May 15, 1779: Later that year, his father sent him to a French military academy at Brienne-le-Chateau, near Troyes. At the academy, Napoleon excelled in mathematics. October 1784: Napoleon leaves Brienne and joins the Royal Military School in Paris. While there, he was constantly teased by the French students because he never joined in games, instead keeping to himself. October 28, 1785: Napoleon had studied to be an artilleryman and an officer. Graduating in 1785, Napoleon received a commission as a second lieutenant in the artillery. Once Napoleon reached the age of 16, he joined the French army. September 15, 1786: Napoleon returns to Corsica after receiving a leave of absence from the military, to return home and visit family. September 12, 1787: Napoleon returns from Corsica, knowing he overstayed his leave of absence for five and a half months because of the French revolution. He realizes he had to leave. September 1789: Napoleon has his third visit to Corsica. The French revolution swept through the country. February 12, 1791: Finally returns to Auxonne. September 1791: Napoleon becomes First Lieutenant for his excellence in leadership and artillery. June 1792: Napoleon joined a radical political society called the Jacobins, who wanted to make France a democratic republic. This membership brought Napoleon into a conflict with the governor of Corsica, Pasquale Paoli. Paoli was a royalist, a supporter of the French monarchy, and in 1792, France went to war with Austria. January, 1793: The French King, Louis XVI was executed and Napoleon returned to the French Army. June 11, 1793: A quarrel with Paoli, the mayor of Corsica, starts and the Napoleonââ¬â¢s family was forced to leave the island. June 13, 1793: Napoleonââ¬â¢s family successfully arrives in Toulon. June 20, 1793: Robespierre and other Jacobins took over the government in June 1793 and began the Reign of Terror. French cities revolted against his government. December 1793: Napoleon successfully defeats the British ships at Toulon. At the age of 24, he became army general in charge of the Army of Italy. July 29, 1794: Robespierre is executed on the July of 1794 during the Thermidorian Reaction. In August, Napoleon is imprisoned for about a week. Napoleon is soon released because of his personal connections. June 13, 1795: After only two years of being Army General of Italy.

Troilus and Criseyde
Tiana Connell #8659 Mr. Powers AP Lang &Comp, Period 1 21 October 2011 Loveââ¬â¢s Spell In the novel Troilus and Criseyde, by Geoffrey Chaucer, we witness the comparison of two human beings falling in love with each other. Troilus and Criseyde experience love in different ways; either by Cupidââ¬â¢s arrow or through the manipulations of relatives they are forced to pursue each other under loveââ¬â¢s spell. Through their story, the readers learn the valuable lesson of loveââ¬â¢s wrath. In the beginning stanzas, we learned that Troilus was a strong and admirable knight of Troy. Troilus, who once joked about those who fell in love, became a victim to love himself. Cupid shot Troilus causing him to fall in love with Criseyde, the first girl he saw. ââ¬Å"So was it with this proud and fiery knight, son of a famous king though he might be; he had supposed that nothing had the might to steer his heart against a will as free as his; yet, at a look, immediately, he was on fire, and he, in pride above all others, suddenly was slave to loveâ⬠(Book I, 33). Through Cupidââ¬â¢s spell on Troilus, he experienced the feeling of having loved and the pain and sorrow it brought. He became sickened by love and his entire persona suffered in devastation. Chaucer says, ââ¬Å"And from then on love robbed him of his deep and made an enemy of his food; his sorrow increased and multiplied, he could not keep his countenance and colour, eve or morrow, had anyone noticed it; he sought to borrow the names of other illnesses, to cover his hot fire, lest it showed him as a loverâ⬠(Book I, 70). Pandarus, Troilusââ¬â¢s fellow friend and uncle of his lover Criseyde, noticed Troilusââ¬â¢s alters in mood and discovered his love for Criseyde. Pandarus, overjoyed by the news, decided to take action by introducing them to one another and to the beginning of a sorrowful adventure. Instead of being hit by Cupidââ¬â¢s arrow, Criseyde was encouraged by her uncle, Pandarus, to give Troilusââ¬â¢s love a chance. He confronted Criseyde and questioned her opinion of Troilus, in hopes to persuade her into a relationship with him. However, when Pandarus informed Criseyde of Troilusââ¬â¢s love for her, she became upset with the inappropriateness of the subject. ââ¬Å"With that he ceased to speak, and hung his head, and she burst out in tears as she replied ââ¬ËAlas, for grief! O why am I not dead, since all good faith on earth has surely died? What would a stranger do to me; she cried, ââ¬ËWhen one I thought my friend, the best of them, bids me to seek a love he should condemn? â⬠(Book II, 59). Although she was honored by Troilusââ¬â¢s flattering notes, Criseyde in return did not show any mutual emotions in her responding letters. She gave him thanks for every good intention towards her, but declined to give him ground for greater hope; she never would be bound in love, save as a sister; this, to please him, she gladly would allow, if that could ease himâ⬠(Book II, 175). However, through the pressures of Pandarus, Troilus and Criseyde became lovers, until the war began, which inevitably s eparated them. Criseyde promised to come back to Troilus when time permitted. However, the untruthful Criseyde gave her heart and broach, given to her from Troilus, to Diomede in the midst of war. Chaucerââ¬â¢s objective in the writing of Troilus and Criseyde was to portray the confusing and mixed messages of love. In the beginning of the novel we are taught that love is the most fulfilling emotion one can experience. He explains the happiness and joy that love brings through Troilus and Criseydeââ¬â¢s romantic relationship. However, in the ending of the story Chaucer shares the pain and sorrow of love. He warns readers to stay away and focus all love on God. ââ¬Å"Oh all you fresh young people, he or she, in whom love grows ripens year by year, come home, come home from worldly vanity! Cast the heartââ¬â¢s countenance in love and fear upwards to God, who in His image here has mad you; think this world is but a fair passing as soon as flower-scent in airâ⬠(Book V, 263). Therefore, Chaucer leaves the audience with confusion of love. Through Cupidââ¬â¢s arrow and Pandarusââ¬â¢s manipulation, the reader develops the story of Troilus and Criseydeââ¬â¢s roller coaster relationship of love. Though it began in beauty and happiness, and ended in grief and sorrow, the audience is taught a valuable lesson about love from Geoffrey Chaucer. Sometimes love brings happiness, while other times it brings misery.
